Dear Cougs,
This is the first of what will be a regular newsletter celebrating some of the amazing things happening on the Pullman campus. I’ll include newsworthy accomplishments, exciting programming, and upcoming events. There are so many reasons to be Pullman proud, and I look forward to sharing some of them with you.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is turning 125 this year! Join us for a celebration on October 4 followed by a screening of the award-winning documentary “War Tails,” which investigates the harsh reality faced by homeless pets in Ukraine.
Join the College of Veterinary Medicine on October 5 for a Celebration of Life and Remembrance for Our Animal Companions.This community-wide event provides a time to remember, grieve, and celebrate the difference companions make in our lives.
WSU has launched a new undergraduate degree program to train and prepare students to meet the evolving public health needs in Washington, particularly in the state’s underserved and rural regions.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, the premier accreditation organization for business programs, has officially extended the Carson College of Business’ accreditation for another six years.
Terrell Library turned 30 on August 25, celebrated with a lecture, reception, and the reopening of the old Holland Library west entrance after 30 years.
Jim Harbour, a career-track associate professor in the Carson College of Business, has been appointed director of the School of Hospitality Business Management, succeeding hospitality professor Bob Harrington. Learn more.
Trevor Bond, former associate dean of digital initiatives and special collections at the WSU Libraries, has been named interim dean.
New Carson College of Business research indicates workplace evaluators who want to avoid appearing prejudiced may give women inflated performance feedback, a practice that could ultimately hinder women’s ability to improve and advance. Learn more.
WSU Press, the university publisher of more than 200 books on Pacific Northwest history and the recipient of numerous national and international honors and awards, found a new home at WSU Libraries.
Thanks to the Transformational Change Initiative, doctoral students in the Language, Literacy, and Technology program are hosting a series of workshops through the XR Development Lab to help instructors appropriately use artificial intelligence.
College of Arts and Sciences has launched a Mental Health Initiative (MHI) that encourages training for faculty and staff to better recognize signs of mental health issues and on how to guide students toward appropriate resources. Read more.
Dr. Anya Sheftel has been awarded funding from the EXCITE program for her project dealing with adult immunization education integration.
WSU alumna and University of San Diego Assistant Professor of Physics Maren Mossman and WSU Professor and American Physical Society Fellow Peter Engels received a grant award titled “Quantum Analog Simulation with Bose-Einstein Condensates in Flexible Light Fields.” Read more.
The Department of History hosted a Blanket Witnessing Ceremony this week to recognize the relationship between WSU and local Native American communities. The ceremonial blanket hangs in the history department’s office for public viewing. Read more.
